BABAU CERAMICS
SAFFI COLLECTION
Babau is a ceramics brand that produces unique,
handmade pieces in small batches. Their new upcoming
collection is titled “Saffi” (Maltese for “layers”) due to the
ridged and layered design of most of the pieces.
The ceramics were presented as found archaeological
objects on a remote beach; ancient artefacts from a bygone
era. The geological strata on display at this rocky location
further emphasise the collection’s visual language.
A particular focus was also made on the maker’s hands
and the raw clay. Babau Ceramics prides itself on honesty
and authenticity – irregularities are not seen as defects, but
rather, as a celebration of materiality and process.
